Keystone Historic Preservation Grant Program
The Pennsylvania Historical & Museum CommissionĀ announced itĀ is investingĀ $2 millionĀ to help communities across Pennsylvania preserve historic places, strengthen local revitalization efforts, and prepare for the nationās 250th anniversary this year.
Through theĀ Keystone Historic Preservation Grant Program, PHMC will awardĀ grants ranging from $5,000 to $100,000Ā to support projects that identify, preserve, promote, and protect historic and archaeological resources across the Commonwealth. Funding is provided through the Keystone Recreation, Park & Conservation Fund.
This yearās investment prioritizes projects that align with the themes ofĀ America250, ensuring Pennsylvaniaās rich and diverse history is preserved and shared as the nation marks its Semiquincentennial.
āHistoric preservation strengthens communities, supports local economies, and connects Pennsylvanians to the stories that shaped our Commonwealth and our country,ā saidĀ PHMC Executive Director Andrea Lowery. āAs we prepare for Americaās 250th anniversary, this funding helps ensure historic places across Pennsylvania are protected and ready to be celebrated.ā
These grants coincide with Governor Josh Shapiroās broader efforts to grow Pennsylvaniaās tourism economy and prepare the Commonwealth to welcome millions of visitors for Americaās 250th anniversary. The Shapiro Administration is investingĀ $50 millionĀ to support America250 planning and major events statewide ā includingĀ $10 millionĀ for the 2026 NFL Draft in Pittsburgh, as well as preparations in Philadelphia for the FIFA World Cup, NCAA March Madness menās basketball tournament, the MLB All-Star Game, and other high-profile events ā positioning communities across Pennsylvania to showcase their history, culture, and economic strength.
Two Grant Categories Available
PHMC offers two types of grants for historic resources that are listed in, or eligible for listing in, the National Register of Historic Places. Applicants may apply for only one category:
- Construction Grants
Construction grants support the rehabilitation, preservation, and restoration of publicly accessible historic resources owned by nonprofit organizations or local governments. Awards range from $5,000 to $100,000 and require a 50/50 cash match.

- Planning Grants
Planning grants support community-based historic preservation planning and project-specific planning initiatives, including municipal planning efforts focused on historic resources. Awards range from $5,000 to $25,000 and require a 50/50 cash match.
Prospective applicants for Planning Grants should attend a PHMC webinar on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at 3:00 PM. Registration for the webinar is availableĀ here.

Applications are dueĀ March 2, 2026.Ā Grants will be awarded through a competitive selection process and are contingent on the availability of funds.

TāMobile Hometown Grants for Community Projects
What the Grant Supports -Ā The Hometown Grants program provides funding for projects that build, rebuild, or refresh community spaces that help foster local connections. Projects must be shovelāready and are expected to be completed within 12 months of funding.
Examples of eligible projects:
- Adaptive reuse of older or historic buildings into community gathering spaces
- Improvements to outdoor parks, trails, or recreational areas
- Technology upgrades or additions for public libraries
Important restrictions:
The grantĀ cannotĀ be used for:
- Engineering or architectural plans/fees
- Salaries or annual operating expenses
- Reimbursement for projects already completed

The 2025 Small Business Advantage Grant Program
Open: August 1, 2025
Close: March 13, 2026 or when all funds are committed.
Available funding: $1 million
These grant funds can be used by Pennsylvania small businesses to increase energy efficiency, reduce pollution, or protect the natural resources of Pennsylvania relating to their business operations. You, your clients, membership, customers, or other constituencies may be interested in applying for this funding. Maximum grant awards will vary and be eligible for more funding if they are located in Environmental Justice areas or have a significant environmental impact.
Funding Levels:Ā
- All eligible projects: up to 50% or $7,500 (whichever is less)
- Eligible and located in Environmental Justice Area: up to 65% or $9,750 (whichever is less)
- Eligible and significant environmental savings: up to 65% or $9,750 (whichever is less)
- Eligible, located in Environmental Justice Area and significant environmental savings: up to 80% or $12,000 (whichever is less)
