By: Alice Wanamaker, CCEDC Member Relations Director

I applaud those of you who have or are in the process of establishing a business in Carbon County and for not only taking a positive step toward growing your business but also investing in yourself and the community. There are so many things to think about when starting a new business, each one as important as the next.

As Member Relations Director, I talk to many people about joining the Chamber of Commerce as an essential part of their growth plan, and what they get from their investment. There are so many benefits to joining; listing one or two benefits barley scratches the surface.  There are, however, a few benefits that I like to hone in on because they are usually the most valuable for our members – both new and established! These benefits are a few of my favorite things; Marketing, networking and referrals!

The Carbon Chamber & Economic Development (CCEDC) is an amazing resource for you and your business. We have the ability to partner you with invaluable resources, potential clients, customers, other businesses and the overall community. Our focus is on YOU, the business owner and our job is to make doing business in Carbon County a successful venture. Whether you are looking for a local supplier, or a list of folks who are interested in growing the community, we can help connect you with referrals or personal introductions.

By joining the Chamber of Commerce, there are many ways your business will benefit. Through Chamber events, you’ll make numerous contacts. Through committee work, you can make a difference. And through the Chamber’s many publications, you can build your personal and professional connections for your business. There are also numerous opportunities for your employees to get involved-ranging from educational to networking events. All of this lends to a brilliant marketing plan.

Members of the CCEDC are welcomed with free advertising from the moment they join, making for a nice ROI (return on investment). We make sure to welcome our members on our website, through social media such as Facebook and in our online eLink Newsletter. We also welcome new members with a free listing in our monthly printed publication, Connections. But the marketing benefits don’t stop there. We also offer low cost advertising on our website and many of our media partners offer exclusive savings to Chamber members.

When we welcome a new member, or reengage an existing member, I always extend an invitation to our next event. Whether it is a ribbon cutting celebration or a mixer at a fabulous restaurant, networking events are a great way to connect with fellow business owners and potential customers. And if you are someone who finds talking to strangers difficult, we have staff and ambassadors at each of our events to help you feel comfortable and make networking enjoyable.

While those are a few of my favorite things, the benefits don’t stop there! The Chamber of Commerce offers more, including: ribbon cutting and anniversary celebrations, Small Business Coaching and Loans, Website and calendar listings, Business Spotlights to highlight news, blogging opportunities, mailing lists, and dual membership with the Greater Lehigh Valley of Commerce.

If you are looking to establish or grow your business, I encourage you to stop by or call our office to learn how we can help you!
